    A place to grow...

    The sun with loving light

Makes bright for me each day

    The soul with spirit power

    Gives strength unto my limbs

    In sunlight shining clear

    I revere, Oh God

    The strength of humankind,

    Which Thou so graciously

    Has planted in my soul

That I with all my might,

May love to work and  learn

From thee stream light and strength

To thee rise love and thanks.

    -Rudolf Steiner

    Our Home

We live on a treed acreage west of Calgary where we homeschool, grow food, raise animals and bees.

    The Rhythm of our Day

    Early Childhood Program

As a strong advocate of natural childhood and allowing the child to develop at their unique pace,  we aim to foster an environment that encourages the child to live fully in the present moment. We do this by creating loving, healthy and consistent rhythms throughout the day. We believe children thrive on a simple, flexible rhythm that carries them through their day, through the week, and through the slowly unfolding years of their lives.

Our day begins outside as we gather and have free play in the trees, forts and sometimes around the fire. We are guided by the natural rhythms of nature as we experience the changing seasons. These seasonal rhythms are the focus of our play, stories, crafts and the meals we share.

Mid morning we come in, share a snack and then circle together for songs, rhymes and gentle games. The older children are responsible for some of the clean up chores and will either join our circle to help and encourage the children or work on some of their individual handwork or craft. We move into free play where we encourage the child's imagination with simple handmade or wooden toys. The older children are then guided into their individual school work or they work together on a project. Some may choose to play with the younger children which is encouraged. The multi aged model of our programs allows children of all ages the chance to return to the simple days of early childhood when needed, which in our belief is the ingredient for successful academic learning. Most children have a strong present urge to learn academics when their development is ready for it.

Our warm noon meal consists of simple wholesome ingredients made with love and often comes from the animals we raise and the vegetables we grow. We bake bread almost daily and the aroma of freshly baked bread, savoury soups and casseroles fills the house enticing the child's appetite. We show gratitude for our food with simple prayers in song.

After lunch we have more outside playtime to allow the fresh air and movement to encourage proper digestion.

Our afternoon will include stories, handwork, crafts or painting inspired by the seasons or the coming festivals. Some of the children may need quiet or nap time which is encouraged but never forced. Most children will naturally fall asleep or build cozy warm nests to relax in at this time of the day.

We finish our day together in circle again showing gratitude and reverence for our time together and anticipation of more loving memories that will be made.

Merry have we met, and merry have we been; Merry let us part, and merry meet again; With our merry sing-song, happy, gay, and free, And a merry ding-dong, happy let us be.

    Homeschool Program

We love Waldorf homeschooling and want your family to thrive in it as much as we have. Our homeschool program is for families who may be new to the lifestyle, or are just looking for a solid community to provide consistency, guidance, social opportunities, celebration of festivals and friendship.

We offer attendance in our seasonal rhythms and participation at our festivals.

We want your children to be part of our year end play!! Contact us for more details.

We walk alongside you and provide the support that is needed for your particular circumstance. Maybe its a day for the kids to  be outside of their academic work, or maybe we can help you navigate some of the curriculum you have chosen. We look forward to hearing what your homeschooling needs are.

Our first semester starts Sept. 19, 2022

A consistent weekly rhythm is encouraged.

    Our Seasonal Festivals

A healthy social life is found only when, in the mirror of each soul, the whole community finds its reflection, and when, in the whole community, the virtue of each one is living.

    MOM'S GROUP

This is a parented gathering with a focus on nourishing young moms and offering a space to create community and connect with other like minded families. The group forms itself organically as we discuss relevant issues in our families and communities. We start with an unstructured playtime, often find time to sing together or do crafts and then finish off with a nutritious home cooked meal around the table.

We love the multi aged model so children of all ages are welcome.

Alison Patenaude CD CBE LE ECE

Alison has been studying child development for 25 years. Her journey began at the Huronia Waldorf School in 1999 where she worked as an ECE assistant and was a parent. She quickly continued her studies at The Toronto Waldorf School/Rudolf Steiner Center studying Anthroposophy, and early childhood. Waldorf became a home for her to feel confident as a parent.

While traveling across Canada and landing at The Nelson Waldorf School in 2007 working again as an assistant in the Grade 1 ,she again was blessed with another opportunity to bring life into the world. In 2010 Family work committments moved her Calgary.

    A few babies later...

She brought her Waldorf experience into her Homeschooling environment.

Also spending many years supporting hundreds of families through childbirth and early parenting.  You may know someone who either had birth at home with Alison or was supported unconditionally during a hospital birth.

She is excited to answer the call of opening  her little acreage just west of Calgary for Waldorf families looking for extra support.

    Seasonal Festivals

    Our seasonal festivals include

    • Michealmas- At the end of September when we slay the dragons of our lazy hazy summer. We talk about our visions for the year enjoy stories of the season and bake and share dragon bread.
    • MARTIMAS- In early November As we journey into the darkest time of the year, it is increasingly important for each of us to kindle warmth and light in our hearts. Martin’s cloak can remind us to share with those in need. The gently glowing lanterns of Martinmas will give way to the candles of the advent spiral as we draw nearer to the Solstice, showing how our inner light must shine ever brighter against the cold. As nature sleeps, we must be wakeful!
    • ADVENT SPIRAL-  The experience of the Advent spiral reflects the human experience at this time of the year; entering a time of darkness, of shorter days and longer nights and going forward with hope to welcome the light of the sun after the winter solstice. A meaningful and reverent event.
    • EASTER- The long nights of the dark winter season come to a close, a new season appears and the first blossoms of spring emerge. Nature releases Earth from the bonds of winter. We recognize this reawakening and celebrate the spirit of resurrection in all life.
    • MAYFEST- A beautiful late spring festival that includes dancing around the maypole. We celebrate our achievements throughout the year and share the fresh insight that arrives this time of year.

Our festivals are intertwined with our seasonal creative projects, handwork and crafts. We also gather for recreational activities and social events.
